Bad Wrestling Gimmicks - Series 1 Custom Wrestling Trading Card Set
$20.00
Description
About six (6) months after Kevin Nash and Scott Hall left the WWF for WCW in 1996 and vacated their roles as "Big Daddy Cool" Diesel and Razor Ramon respectively, the characters suddenly reappeared on WWF programming.
However, it wasn't Hall and Nash portraying the duo. A fact that was not only immediately noticed but also hated by fans.
In an ill-conceived and petty attempt to get one over on WCW and somehow prove a point that fans didn't care so much about the wrestlers portraying the characters and only about the characters themselves, Vince McMahon recast Rick Bognar as "The Bad Guy" Razor Ramon and Glenn Jacobs and "Big Daddy Cool" Diesel.
This type of recasting might work for a masked gimmick but for fan favorites like Razor and Diesel, it didn't fly.
The "fake" Diesel and Razor Ramon only lasted about five (5) months. Bognar would go on to Japan and find success as Big Titan in the NJPW version of the NWO and Jacobs would assume the gimmick that would define his career: Kane.
Speaking of Glenn Jacobs, prior to his transformation into "Diesel" he was saddled with the gimmick of Jerry Lawler's sadomasochistic dentist, Issac Yankem, DDS.
Originally brought in to battle "The Hitman" Bret Hart on The King's behalf, Yankem was another one of the WWF's New Generation occupational gimmicks. Alongside wrestling garbagemen, racecar drivers and hockey players, Yankem's tenure in the federation lasted a little over a year before the gimmick was retired and the "Fake" Diesel hit the scene.
This three (3) piece custom trading card set, limited to 23 hand-numbered sets, pays homage to some of the decent, hardworking wrestlers that got stuck with the most terrible gimmicks. Designed to be an ongoing series, these first three (3) cards showcase some of the arguably worst gimmicks to ever see the light of day, the "Fake" Razor Ramon, the "Fake" Diesel and Isaac Yankem, DDS.
While these cards are professionally printed, they are assembled and cut by hand and as such, there will be ever so slight variances in the card dimensions and centering. They should be viewed as small batch, handmade, collectible art pieces.
